DAY 5 | Lima – Puerto Maldonado – Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica
Thursday

A transportation service will take you from the selected hotel to the Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima.

Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, known as the Biodiversity Capital, you will be transferred by car to the port, where your Amazon adventure will begin with a 45-minute boat ride along the winding banks of the Madre de Dios River. The motorized boat will take you to Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica, located in the heart of the rainforest.

After a brief welcome, you will settle into your cabin in Peru's first private Ecological Reserve, preserved by Inkaterra since 1975. After lunch, you can relax in your cabin or enjoy the hammock. Later, you will choose from various excursions with your Inkaterra Explorer Guide, such as exploring the Trail System to learn about Amazonian biodiversity. You will observe impressive trees and wildlife while exploring the rainforest, and you should have your camera ready to capture sightings of sloths or monkeys.

In the late afternoon, you will participate in the River by Night excursion to discover how the jungle transforms into a nocturnal world, revealing species adapted to the darkness. You can observe nightjars, owls, capybaras, and caimans hidden on the riverbanks.

Finally, you will enjoy an Amazon-inspired dinner in the main dining room from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, where you will be invited to toast with a complimentary Pisco Sour. You will return to your comfortable cabin to rest, lulled by the symphony of the surrounding jungle.

*During the stay in the Puerto Maldonado lodges, only medium-sized luggage is allowed; larger luggage will be stored. The maximum allowed luggage weight at Inkaterra and Reserva Amazónica is 10 kg.

  • Accommodation at Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica
  • Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
DAY 6 | Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica
Friday

The breakfast buffet will be available from 5:30 AM. This morning, you will visit Lake Sandoval, a glittering mirror of water located within the Tambopata National Reserve. You will board a carved wooden canoe and paddle calmly through the canals that feed the lake, then navigate it flanked by beautiful palm trees. In this serene lake, inhabited by various species of birds, the endangered river wolf, howler monkeys, macaws, anacondas, turtles, and black caimans, among other animals, you will live a unique experience. You will return to Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica in time for lunch.

In the afternoon, you will ascend the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway, an ecological system of hanging bridges that offers panoramic views of the Amazon rainforest from 38 meters high. You can observe toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, monkeys, and sloths. You can extend your visit to enjoy the sunset with cocktails from an observation tower or spend the night in a treehouse with surprising amenities (additional services).

Upon your descent, you will take a 30-minute walk along the Anaconda Walk: an elevated wooden platform 200 meters (656 feet) long, built over a flooded aguajales forest. In this lush ecosystem, you will observe various species of amphibians, birds, mammals, abundant flora, and interesting trees.

Back at the lodge, you can enjoy our daily presentation on nature in the Eco Center or book a spa treatment. The à la carte dinner will be available from 7:00 PM.

DAY 7 | Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica
Saturday

You will travel by boat for 25 minutes to the Chacra and Gamitana Stream to discover more mysteries of the rainforest. The Amazon is an almost inexhaustible source of exotic fruits and vegetables, many of which have healing properties that benefit the local communities that inhabit this remote jungle. In the Gamitana model chacra, surrounded by the sounds and aromas of the Amazon, you can observe closely how local farmers cultivate a wide variety of ingredients, as well as taste the seasonal fruits.

You will walk along a trail of dense vegetation, under the green of the canopy, until you reach the Gamitana Stream. This stream, with dark and muddy waters, is home to piranhas, caimans, turtles, and birds that hide on its banks. You will return to Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica to enjoy lunch.

You will navigate 35 minutes upstream to Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción, built on an old cocoa and rubber plantation in the 1950s. Founded by Catholic missionaries, this property functioned as a medical center and ecological studies center. With more than 200 different species of plants, you will see why the Amazon is considered the largest pharmacy in the world, and you will learn about its uses and benefits.

Then, you will enjoy a relaxing 30-minute canoe ride, in search of turtles, divers, nightjars, and herons before returning to your lodge.

Under the moonlight, you can participate in the Night Forest excursion. Equipped with flashlights, you will walk among the foliage while your senses perceive the movements among the vegetation and the nocturnal sounds of the forest that arise from different directions around you. Together with your Explorer Guide, you will have the opportunity to observe animal activity and species that only emerge during the night.
