Periodontics

The term periodontium comes from Greek and refers to everything around the tooth that supports it, including the gums, periodontal ligament, and bone.

The accumulation of bacterial plaque inflames the gums, causing evident clinical signs such as redness, bleeding, swelling, recessions, or even abscesses.

If this inflammatory state persists, the periodontium ceases to perform its supporting function, eventually causing tooth mobility.
It is estimated that a high percentage of the adult population suffers from periodontal disease in a more or less severe form, which is often not diagnosed or treated adequately.

Periodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with the prevention and treatment of periodontal disease, from early diagnosis, identification of genetic predisposition to disease, or the presence of specific pathogens, to periodontal surgery and guided bone and tissue regeneration by GBR – GTR.

Upon completion of therapy, it is essential to constantly maintain the results obtained.

Periodontal patients are included in a prevention and maintenance protocol according to international standards and are entrusted to a periodontist.
